The Dresses That Weren't

Well I'm back from a fabulous weekend visiting Mr. T in Minnesota!!  It was so amazing to see him again after more than a month, and I already miss him.  We got to hang around our house, and his mom and I and many of his relatives went to his first home game of the season.  They lost, but the brand new stadium was awesome.  All in all, it was a great weekend, and I can't wait until I can go back.  I love you Mr. T!

I got back pretty late, but since I've been away all weekend, I figured I'd share with you a post I've had written for a few days now so I don't have to do anything tonight!!  It's about the dresses that weren't.

I know I haven't told you much about my dress yet, but it is ordered!! I found it back in May and it should be in sometime in the next few months.  I absolutely love it and I promise I'll show it to you soon (as long as I have Mr. T's word that he won't peek), but in the meantime here are some of the dresses that I didn't love enough...and some of them I didn't love at all!

We started out at David's Bridal up near Chicago.  I'm kind of iffy as to what to say about the service.  The lady that was appointed to me did fairly well, she brought me dresses as I asked for them and was around to zip me up most of the time.  But one of my bridesmaids was also dress shopping for her wedding and her lady disappeared after the first 2 minutes and hardly ever came back.  So it wasn't horrible, but not the greatest either.  Here's what I found:

Nothing made me catch my breath when I looked in the mirror, and I didn't get that feeling of a dress being "the one" like I was hoping for.  So we moved on.

We went to Eva's Bridal next which was right down the road.  We got to pick out all the dresses we wanted to try on, and then we were put in huge dressing rooms which was really nice.  We kind of fended for ourselves after that, but occasionally a lady would be there to help tie or zip you up.  What really sucked about this place was that they wouldn't let you take a picture of the dress until you actually bought it!  So my maid of honor AKA my seester and I were sneaking pictures in the dressing room.

This is the style dress my heart was originally set on, but I quickly realized it totally doesn't work for me. There's just something about being super short and a huge puffy skirt that don't go so well together, who would have thought?!

There was one other dress that I actually thought was "the one" and I just couldn't get out of it, but we somehow managed not to get a picture of it.

This was the dress I really thought I loved and I needed my mom to see it because her opinion is really important to me.

So that was my first weekend of dress shopping up in Chicago.  Then I tried again at a store down here in Champaign called Michelle's Bridal.  Absolutely awesome service, and this is ultimately where I ordered my dress from.

I tried on this Maggie again because I realized after looking at the picture of myself in it from the store in Chicago that I really liked it.  I really recommend looking at pictures of yourself in the dresses to see what they look like before you make any decisions.

I tried on the Victoriana again for my mom to see, and she hated it! And after seeing myself in the dresses from the last trip with the huge skirts I realized it really wasn't that flattering. (I managed to not get a picture again! I would still really like to see what I looked like in it.)

So then I started trying on some more styles to figure out what was going to work.

So there you have it....all the losers!  I'd tell you the names and who they were by, but I honestly don't have a clue!! I just picked and chose dresses off the racks that I thought were pretty.  One of these days I'll show you the winner, the dress I'm absolutely in love with, and feel like a total princess in =]  Cross your fingers that Mr. T will keep his eyes away.

What about you guys, how many dresses did you fall in and out of love with until you found "the one"?

  1. The first picture is my dress! :) I liked it the first time I tried it on, but my mom didn't. And then we happened to try it on at another David's Bridal with a different slip on under it and it looked like a totally different dress, and my mom loved it! You look awesome in that Maggie dress!!

  3. Some of these are amazing and a lot of them look fantastic on you! I can't wait to see what your dress looks like! I know what I want but I haven't been able to track it down in any bridal shops yet. I'm thinking about having something custom made - but I still need to try thing on to see what I like.
