I went out and talked to my "cake lady" the other day. That's how she signed my card at my shower =] We finalized the design and cake flavors and got everything together that we would need.
Here was my original inspiration. This was the sketch I came up with from looking at the picture.
We ended up changing the plans just a little. Instead of doing ivory tiers, we decided it might look a little dirty, so the cake is going to be solid with with white-on-white designs. The two skinny tiers are going to be "dummy cakes" so there will only be 4 edible tiers. The top, of course, will be saved for our one year anniversary. That one will be white with white filling. Because I hate chocolate =]
The other three tiers will be the following flavors (I forget which goes where):
Chocolate with fudge filling
White with white filling
Lemon with raspberry mousse filling
I'm excited to taste the lemon one. I just had a cupcake she made the other night that had the mousse filling and it was delicious!
We're doing solid black grosgrain ribbon for the bases of the tiers. They're 1", 3/4" and 1/2" widths. The only problem with this cake is that it's going to be huge! So I had to build a cake stand to go with it, instead of being able to just go buy one. Look for that DIY post later on today.

Wedding Cake Inspiration: Part Two
part 1
I was watching Ace of Cakes earlier today, (best show ever, by the way!) and one cake kept popping up in the background anytime they did interviews. I took a picture on my phone, and when I got back to school tonight I sketched it out on paper.
First, the crappy phone picture.

And my interpretation of this beauty...
Here's what I'm thinking about mixing white and ivory in the layers. The color in this picture would probably be the darker ivory, and then do a lighter ivory as well.
What caught my eye about this cake was the difference in the layers. All of the pictures I found and shared during part one had layers with even heights. I really like how this has differing thicknesses. It will probably work out better this way anyways because it will be a little larger than the pictures in the previous post, and we do have to feed about 300 people.
Until now, I really didn't know what I wanted for my wedding cake. But now, I think we're good! I love the sketch, and can't wait to see it in real life. I should probably run it past Mr. T but I'm sure he won't care one way or the other.
Now we just have to pick flavors...that should be the fun part!
Where did you draw inspiration for your wedding cake from??

Wedding Cake Inspiration: Part One
Wedding Cake.
Yum =] Just the thought of it makes me happy. There's something about cake to me, that just evokes happiness and celebration. Just the sort of things you'd want on your wedding day.
Maybe it stems back to all the wonderful cakes my mom would have made for our birthdays. A close family friend of ours is an excellent baker and she never failed to outdo herself while we were growing up. I had a teddy bear shaped cake for my first birthday, big bird shaped when I was 4 or 5, a cake with keys for my 16th....and many others in between.
She's wonderful, and she's agreed to make my wedding cake. Which makes her even more wonderful =] So even though I won't need to know for a long time what my wedding cake is going to be made of, or what it's going to look like, a girl can't help but pull together ideas early!!

So here goes:
I love the simple round tiers with the green banding on the bottoms and the little dots are adorable, but not polka-dottie. Not so much do I love the flowers on top.
The green in this is more appropriate, but I'm not totally sold on the swirlies.
This is one of the only square cakes in my saved folder, and I think I just like it for the banding. Not a fan of the orchids randomly placed among the tiers.
I love how each tier has a different design, but it's very lacking in color. No all-white cakes for us!
This could be cute and simple, with the appropriate green.
This last picture is the way I'm currently leaning right now, with maybe the cute dots from the first picture. I want a band of green spider mums going around the base of just the bottom tier and possibly worked in as the cake topper as well.
I haven't even begun to think about the inside of the cake, because there are just too many yummy possibilities!! For now my eyes are content to wander on the beauty that is the icing =]
