A Dress For My Next Shower

The other day I decided to go shopping to treat myself for my weight loss and the success of my Etsy shop since opening up.  The plan was to buy a bunch of cute tops for the summer, maybe a couple pairs of shorts, cute shoes...you get the idea.
Well I ended up spending almost more time shopping for Mr. T and really enjoyed it! But along the way, I ran into a little corner of Kohl's that sort of surprised me.  Apparently Lauren "LC" Conrad has her own clothing line at Kohl's.  You don't want to get me started on her (what is she famous for anyways?) but this time I can't complain.
I found an absolutely adorable dress that I just HAD to buy!  I was planning on just wearing the same cute white dress from my MN shower to the one I have coming up this weekend, but after seeing this dress, all bets were off.

It was marked at $60 and I decided I was going to buy it even though it was a little pricey and totally unnecessary.  Then I looked at the rack when I came out of the dressing room and saw that it was 45% off dropping it down to $35.  And I had a 15% coupon on top of that, so it worked out wonderfully!

I took it home and attempted to take some pictures of it.  Sorry they're kind of crappy, but Mr. T is always at work so I couldn't have him do it.  (And I can't find it online anywhere to show you!)
I love it! It's all sequin-y and gorgeous!

Oh and p.s. my cousin had her baby on Saturday...on her own birthday!! What an awesome birthday present.  My parents were planning on going camping over the weekend but about an hour into the trip my dad got sick so they turned around.  Once they got back to the house my mom left for IN and made it to the hospital a couple of hours before she gave birth.  So here she is with Brady Thomas.

I Ordered My Veil!

MR. T.....THIS POST IS NOT FOR YOUR EYES....IT CONTAINS PICTURES OF ME IN MY DRESS, AND I KNOW YOU REALLY DON'T WANT TO SEE IT, NOR DO I WANT YOU TO!

This last trip home to IL, I was there for three weeks, and I took another trip down to Champaign to try on my dress again, pay it off, and bring it home.  My mom and Mr. T's mom were able to go with me and we made a night of it by going to Olive Garden afterwards.  Mr. T's mom had never been there before and she absolutely loved it!

A few weeks before my dress came in, I decided that I was going to attempt to make my own veil, because the one I had my heart set on cost about $200.  I figured if I got the right tulle it wouldn't be hard to do, it would just take a lot of time to bead the edges.  So I stopped and got some tulle from JoAnn's and went about cutting out the two layers.  Basically I just laid it out on the floor, folded in half lengthwise and cut a large "U" shape into it.  Then I sewed a running stitch at the top and pulled it tight so it gathered.  I made two layers, and sewed them together onto a comb and brought it down to try on with my dress.
At home I didn't think it was too bad, but when I tried it on with the dress I knew it wasn't going to work.  Compared to the veil I wanted, the tulle was much thicker/coarser/heavier/whatever and it was much fuller as well.  I knew I could have looked for a more delicate tulle and started over since I hadn't put much time into it, but I didn't want to take off the veil in the store, and my mom told me to go ahead and just order it.
It seems like now, some things are just a drop in the hat when you think about the overall budget.  My parents are being absolutely amazing about this wedding and I feel spoiled, but in a good way.  So now my veil is on order and I'm just waiting for it to come in!

Wanna see??  Of course you do, after listening to that long and boring story.
The third picture is the same veil, but in a single layer.  I decided to go with the double layer because I really think I'd like to wear it in front of my face while walking down the aisle.  Might as well go all out right?!

This is one project I'm glad I switched from the DIY list to the buy list.  One less project I have to do, and I know it will turn out perfectly.

My Dress

Okay, so since I've been gone for so long, and I keep promising you guys all sorts of wonderful things, and then continue to fail to produce, I'm going to start off with a bang and show you all my dress!

So if your name happens to be Mr. T and you would like to continue to have no knowledge of what I'll be walking down the aisle in.....definitely don't continue!

Mother of the Bride Dress

Quite honestly, my mom and I haven't talked much about her dress yet.  I've been really excited for her to start looking for one, and I told her absolutely not would she look like a stuffy Mother of the Bride.  No sensible shoes, or gaudy two piece outfits.  She said she wanted to wait until she lost a little more weight.

The other week she asked me what color she should wear.  I haven't put a lot of thought into it, and told her just as much.  I said probably a nice, darker jewel tone would complement the girls' dresses nicely.  I don't really think it needs to be the same color green, and good luck finding it anyways!  She agreed, and said she looks good in jewel tones.  We left it at that.

So she caught me off guard a little after breakfast yesterday when she told my sister and I to wait in the living room and she'd be down with something to show us.  This is a frequent occurence in our house, so I had no clue what to expect.
As soon as she got downstairs I could hear heels clicking down the hallway.  She walked into the kitchen, and this is what we saw.

By the way, she WILL probably kill me when she finds out that I've posted this.  I told her I needed to take pictures, and she kind of freaked because her hair and face weren't done, and I believe her excuse was, she hadn't even brushed her teeth yet.  I told her not to worry after she asked me who might see it.

Last week she went shopping with her friend for a wedding she had to go to this last weekend.  This friend of hers is an awesome influence and told her she absolutely had to get it.  Thank you Zan, it looks amazing!  It's an Adrianna Papell dress that she found at Macy's at originally $188, and on sale for an amount she couldn't remember when I asked.

My mom has concerns though.  She doesn't think she should be wearing a short dress when the girls are in long.  And she thinks the top is too revealing, but I told her her boobs look great.  What are daughters for, right?  I absolutely love the dress, and I think it looks adorable on her.  I really don't care that it's purple, and not at all in our color scheme.  And I definitely don't think she needs a jacket or a wrap like she tried to suggest.

Now we just have Mr. T's mom left.  Do you think the two "Mother of" dresses should be similar in color, or would an unrelated jewel tone work well too?
